01 / The story
Not a lifestyle brand.
A lived one.
Matriarch Of Vermont is the umbrella over everything I make, grow, teach, write, cook, and gather people around.
I was born in Gardena and raised in Orange County, but much of my cultural imagination was shaped in South Central Los Angeles, on 92nd and Vermont. In Orange County, I was raised as an only child by my other grandmother, a woman who worked hard and carried the weight of our home. In South Central, I stepped into another world: a block full of children, dozens of cousins, stories moving from room to room, food on the table, my granny’s hymns on Sunday morning, and Sunday dinner bringing everybody together.
Matriarch Of Vermont is not simply about my granny. It is about the experience of growing up between those two worlds and everything I inherited from them: storytelling, food, faith, community, nostalgia, and the feeling of belonging to something larger than myself. One world gave me roots. The other gave me range. Together, they shaped the woman I am today.
